For over 20 years, the real-time strategy game StartCraft has dominated the professional gaming scene. Google’s latest artificial intelligence AlphaStar, defeated its top proffesionals in an intense game series.
Everyone gets excited when algorithms crack and new game, and AlphaStar’s victories in StarCraft II are the buzz on the streets these days. In a 5 game match against top professional Team Liquid’s Grzegorz “MaNa” Komincz, one of the world’s strongest professional StarCraft players, the AI claimed a perfect 5/5 victory.
Each match featured a different version of the AI, which has a different play styles and strategy. However, some critiques rightfully complained that through the games API, the AI was fully aware of all its visible environment (unit health / position etc) at all times. This is in contrast to a human, who is only able to observe this information where his camera is currently pointing on the map.
A later version of the AI was taught to move the camera to gather information, just like a human would. Learn more about AlphaStar through the videos below.
