This algorithm will take a black and white photo, and color beautifully with real-time user tweaking.
I stumbled on this beautiful research demonstrating real-time black and white image colorization using artificial intelligence. Now, this is not the first time AI is used in coloring photos, but the first time I have seen it doing so according to the color inputs of the user.
For example, an image of a waterfall will color the water blue (clearly), but if you so choose, you could also set the “input” color as green, and the algorithm will do its best job to fit the colorization around that. The applications for this are amazing.
Below is their incredible demo video, and for the more technical people, the source code is available on GitHub. Their code is heavily based on a well known AI model, CycleGan, which can be found here.
