Reface: Realistic Face-Swap Videos App

Reface App Demo

This app claims it can create hyper-realistic face swap videos & gifs with just one selfie. Well, lo and behold … it actually works really well!

Clearly based on some seriously cutting edge AI, this app can take any image and face swap it onto a video. Amazingly the mouth movements seem authentic, and the videos are hilarious. Swap yourself & your friends into funny music videos or famous movie scenes!

I tried the free version to create the demo video below, where you can see many of the featured videos in action! I must say the app works incredibly fast (less than 5 seconds to render). Previous AI filters like Prisma could take up to a minute to render a single image, so this processing rate is really impressive.

I did seem to hit a limit on the number of free videos I could make. I would say the limit is around 12 videos, at that point, I was prompted to wait several hours before I could create another one. (paid version is about 8$ / month)

Honestly, I am speechless. Dont waste your free videos, check all the ones I did below and do just the ones you like 🙂

The technology is based on the Reface.ai API.

The marketing potential of such an API is endless, here is some really cool things you could do with it.

Create a screen with a movie ad, but when you stare at it you are actually the super-hero fighting the bad guys! Or maybe even the villain – awesome.

How about outside Victoria’s Secret shop there is a screen showing their infamous fashion show, but instead of the models, it is you walking down the aisle!

Or for all you video editors, why not take some generic stock footage and swap the face you need in? Simple, quick, cheap!

The company behind the app is based in Ukraine under the legal name Neocortext Inc, and was founded it Jan 2019. According to their CrunchBase page, they have raised only 1 funding round of an undisclosed amount.

They also have a free web app for face-swapping, reflect.tech, based on the same technology stack.

The company was actually renamed from Doublicat to Reface at the same time that the company was able to render face-swaps to videos instead of just GIFs.

On a final note, as awesome as this app is it does give access to your media folder and camera, plus you need a photo to make a video. Given that they give so much for free (making these videos in the millions in very expensive), I am sure they will look for additional revenue streams with your data.

You should also beware that the same technology behind this app (deep-fake) can be used to do some serious harm. The verge wrote a nice article about this issue which can be found here.
